SCOPE: Education
DATE: July 2021
PLACE: Olaberria, Gipuzkoa
CLIENT: Olaberria Infant School
PROJECT DEFINITION: Creative map
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
Baso Eskola is a primary school educational program delivered outdoors. Young children investigate and learn in forest and/or natural outdoor settings, while adults participate as observers, not through direct participation. The Baso Eskola project, uses the forest setting as a tool to work on the independence and self-esteem of the children and integrates the contents of curriculum. The project scope included the design of a simple map for the educators to facilitate the interpretation of the natural environment to the young learners.
THE RESULT
The map inputs included public digital images from GeoEuskadi. To facilitate the interpretation of the map contents by children, the map details were simplified to a limited number of constructive and natural elements. Emphasis was given to content such as tree species found in the forest, the distribution of buildings, and differentiating between roads and trails. The project was delivered in a simple A4 size .jpg and .pdf format for printing by teachers.
